There is a lot more to efficiency consulting than just time and motion studies. We try to take a simpler and more practical approach. We look for the unhappy employees and those that are not productive. Sometimes it is as simple as swapping a few desks around. Other times, it might just be adding a holding area for supplies. We are more focused on finding unneeded redundancy, waste, bottlenecks, automation and unused resources.

Redundancy can be very important. It makes certain that you do not have disruptions and it helps with quality control. Sometimes, though, there is unneeded redundancy. This is where there are few or no benefits. We help identify such situations and come up with appropriate recommendations. The possibility exists that could even recommend additional redundancy if we see it lacking.

Waste takes many forms. There is the waste that is the byproduct of production. We can try to find ways to repurpose such materials or even find other companies that might purchase the byproducts. There are inefficiencies in ordering supplies. This can be simply purchasing more than you need, but it is more often overlap provided by the supplier that you pay for. We could also look for alternative sourcing. And, recycling, of course.

The concept of a bottleneck is one part of the process that takes longer than others resulting in everyone else slowing down to accommodate the slowest element. This time could be used productively. We can help identify the bottlenecks in your organization and either come up with ways to overcome them, speed them up, or suggest changes to have that downtime to be productive in alternative ways.

Some companies become hoarders. This is an inefficient use of space and makes finding things that are used more difficult. We find unused equipment and find ways to utilize or eliminate it. Just because one day you might want to make a mimeograph when your copier isn't working doesn't mean that it is worthwhile to keep it. Don't know what a mimeograph machine is? Exactly!

We work with groups that are small, medium and large. We also work with people that are in the city, the suburbs, and that are in more rural areas. It never made sense to get our own facilities. We come to a venue of your choosing and this allows you to make your own food and beverage options. In general, you want enough light to see, enough space to move around comfortably, and it should be quiet enough to hear. Everything else can be adjusted to.

WHAT IS THE REASON?

The first step is to determine your needs. This includes potential goals, desires and concerns. The more we know about what has already been decided can allow us to narrow the conversation to approaches that interest you.

WHAT ARE THE DETAILS? WHERE? WHEN? HOW MANY?

We need to know the city where the event will be as well as what kind of venue might be used. A date, or date range, for when you would like to have this and what time frame you are looking for will help to determine our commitment and availability. Knowing the size of your group, though that will likely just be an estimate, will allow us to choose appropriate options and have a better feel for the resources required.

DO YOU HAVE A BUDGET?

If you know budget limitations, that can allow us to restrict the conversations to those options that will be within your financial constraints. This works in both directions. We don't want to overbuild and propose options that can't be done. Also, we don't want to provide less than we could realizing the resources that could be made available to better achieve your goals.
